Want me to talk?

I am in the very fortunate position to have a job that encourages me to go out there and talk at conferences, unconferences or go to companies to give a short lunch-break presentation.

I’m happy to talk about almost everything but of course there are certain subjects I am an expert in:

  • Accessibility
  • All tech things Yahoo (APIs, SDKs)
  • Front End Development
  • Online Tech writing
  • JavaScript
  • Mashups
  • Unobtrusive JavaScript / Defensive Scripting
  • Leading large development teams / distributed development
  • Making complex technical “stuff” easy to understand
  • Judging hack competitions and the like

If you have a conference, unconference or event and want me to be there, why don’t you put a comment here and I come back to you. I am happy to support grass-root events and should get small budgets to travel there, however if you organize a massive event where people pay good money to go to please don’t expect me to pay for my flight and hotel.

cheers
Chris

Is there any chance Javascript lovers can post a Robots.txt file on their sites, stating the sites you have to trust to enable functionality.

The Guardian newspaper seems to have gone to almost cold war levels to stop any mortal viewing their site without then also allowing the world and his aunt to take over your computer when you go somewhere else.

    Hey Chris,

I run 3 meetup groups in Los Angeles. PHP / MySQL / Semantic Web. If you have a talk on one of these topics, would love to have you speak here. Yahoo! actually provides a venue for some of these talks, btw. I’m a huge fan of the developer network.

    Chris,

    I’m writing this as a fan–yes, fan–of your work.

I believe you’ve already been invited to come over to Codebits’09 in Lisbon next December. I’ve been pressing the organizers to get you onboard because I think the crowd at Portugal needs to ear what you have to say. Be it YQL, BOSS, pure Javascript or webdev clever techniques, I think you’d have a ball at an event like Codebits.

When I last ping-ed the org about the status of your invitation, they told me they had reached you but you had failed to respond, yet. I know this may sound impatient, but I imagine your agenda gets filled up pretty quick. You can call this pre-emptive concern. :)

Feel free to contact me on the address I used to leave this comment if you need any further assistance.

    Cheers!

  17. Brian Says:

    Hey Chris,

Its Brian from Jupiter. How you doing? Me and Justin run and organize JS.Chi, the Chicago JavaScript meetup. I was wondering if you want to speak at our next one (using WebEx) :) We haven’t picked our next date yet but we’re considering Nov 12th.

We get 60-80 people to come, and its been growing lately, so it might be more next time. We have an interesting mix of complete JS noobs and JS gurus. You’re welcome to talk on anything JS related. YUI, accessibility, whatever.

A couple months ago, Richard Worth (jQuery UI guy) gave a talk remotely. It went pretty well, we could see him, he could see us, and we could ask questions.

    You interested?

Nice to meet you last night at Tokyo 2.0! I later found out that you were at the first Barcamp HK 2 years ago? I was still in NY with Yahoo back then, was there for almost 6 years until I exported all our data to Sunnyvale on new app dev’d from India… Well, at least I got my gum ball machine!! :P Since then I’ve been diving into the open source world and in love w/ it!! I did go to Barcamp HK last year and was part of the organizers this year until I moved to Tokyo.

It’s too bad you’re only in Tokyo until the 14th, I would’ve loved to invite you to join Kohei Nishiyama for a lunch meeting. As I’ve said last night, Kohei is a real visionary and started this user collaboration, innovation business more than 10 years ago! Before any Web 2.0 or Social Network buzz words were even invented! You can check out the impressive list on the Board of Advisor – http://www.elephant-design.com/corp/en_board.html

Anyway, I’m now in charge of bringing CUUSOO up to date… however, businesses are still very conservative in Japan and they don’t want to use anything Open Source! I think it would be awesome if you can be our technical adviser, give us your foresight and help put us on the right footing! I think our unique history may become an interesting case study for your next book or something too!

    Cheers,
    -Nick

  19. Alex Says:

Hi! I can’t get why are you using “she” and “her” when talk about visitor or user? For example “as you can never be sure if the visitor of your web page can deal with resized windows or will be notified by her user agent”

  20. Piotr Says:

Hello Christian! It would be great if you could visit us in Poland in May. We’re holding a conference for web developers, designers and ux experts. I’ve sent you an email telling all about that. Please let me know. Thanks!
