The 'outdatedness' is a very interesting issue. What do do with an 'outdated' tutorial? Delete it? Modify it? The latter isn't always possible. Especially when the tutorial is about something you as a writer don't really deal with anymore. I tried to solve this by adding some sort of disclaimer at the beginning of the tutorial to let the user know that it's based on an older version of a certain piece of software and may therefore not be 'up to date' anymore with the latest version of that software. I think completely removing blog articles is a bit of a shame.

The following is an example of a tutorial I wrote that ranks very high in search engines on the subject that it's about (xajax):

I tried to resolve the issue by adding the 'possibly outdated' disclaimer. Good? Bad?

"you can cause much more damage with bad information – people trust you to be an expert and will believe and repeat what you said"

This is the big issue, once you blog about something and if you got a good serp position for a particular keyword people thrust google and think that what they find on your site/blog/etc are the truth.

I found a little post on my blog got linked around the web, but that was only a reminder for me for something i wrote lots of time after that post,
it wasn't wrong code, it actually works, but it haven' t any sense as per se:

http://mykenta.blogspot.com/2006/05/getelementbyclass.html
http://mykenta.blogspot.com/2007/10/getelementbyclass-revisited.html

I'm not a big name on the web but i suppose that if i was the problem is order of magnitude bigger.

Sorry for my english.

Great advice to keep in mind. I particularly like that you point out the fact that people consider you an authority and will repeat what they learn, so it's all the more important to get your stuff right.

Quick-fix tutorials are popular because there's a demand for them. Why go through the pain of understanding the fundamentals and laying a firm foundation when you can just follow a 10-step tutorial that just works (or seems to work)?

I think that the problem with many of these tutorials is that there is too much emphasis on the how and not enough on the why of web development. People tend to shy away from the concepts of accessiblity, useability and seo which, if you get them in right at the beginning will become a natural part of any new developers style.

Have you actually found any good tutorials out there?
