Mapsurface.com and me are watching you!

Glenn Jones of Mapsurface.com just sent me my login details for this cool tracking tool.

Try it now by pressing ALT+X on your keyboard (seems not to work in Opera though).

What I love about it:

  • The slick interface
  • The validity - it stays in the head of the document as two includes and doesn’t do any document.write nasties in the body
  • The on-demand nature - you might not want to wait for my tracker to run

What I think needs to change:

  • You should be able to password - protect the stats

If that were the case, I’d try and approach a lot of clients with this goody.

    The equivalent Mac keystrokes are shift-option-x.

    PS: I just noticed that little “skip” (or jump) icon next to the “Skip to content” and “Back to menu” links. Love it.

    Yep, not working here in Opera, but oh-so-slick in Firefox!
    Also works on IE, but the “Loading MapSurface” box sticks when I open / close and open again. (all this in Windows XP.)

    Really nice!

    Very cool. Works fine in Mozilla 1.7.12 here. Never heard about it, but checking it out right away.

    MapSurface now works with Opera (tested on 8.51). Opera does not support altKey property, little bit of any oversight on my behalf. So for now Opera users can click “Shift Ctrl X”. I will have to come up with a key combination that work on all browsers and does clash with any other functionality.

    I’m using an uncommon browser (Konqueror 3.4.2 on KDE 3.4.2 on Mandriva Linux 2006) so you may not care, but
    on longer pages like the General articles page:
    the status bar info on the number of images loaded keeps changing as the page loads - 34 of 35, 35 of 36 etc;
    the page flashes as it gets near the end of loading;
    some time after when click a link, I get a warning that a Javascript is freezing the page and offering Abort or Continue.
    Is this ‘mapsurface.js’ at work perhaps - Alt-X, Ctrl-Alt-X, Ctrl-Shift-X all do nothing
